Description: First photos of our attack on Attu. Men carry a litter across the landscape on Attu Island. Verso reads: "As American troops landed on Attu, Aleutian Island, May 11, 1943, a Navy combat photography unit accompanied the first wave of American troops ashore at Japanese-occupied Attu, the westernmost island of the Aleutian chain. Some of the photos were made under fire - and we too had our casualties. |
