Alaska State Archives
The State Archives is the repository that preserves the government records of Alaska's history and makes these records accessible to its patrons in a safe, professional, and responsible manner. Government records with permanent historical value include legislative bills and histories, audio recordings, meeting minutes, annual reports, birth and death records, naturalization records, incorporation records, court and probate, correspondence, publications and other agency-related material. We do not collect personal manuscript records. The Alaska State Archives holds records dated from 1874 - present, with the majority of records created in the 20th century. Areas of strength include territorial and state governor records, territorial court records, community-based state government records, and state era legislative records.

Office of History and Archaeology
The State of Alaska passed the Alaska Historic Preservation Act (Alaska Statute 41.35) in 1970 that led to creation of the Office of History and Archaeology. The Office of History and Archaeology works to preserve sites and buildings that reflect Alaska's heritage. A staff of archaeologists, historians, and architectural historians oversee programs to identify, document and restore sites and buildings, and to educate Alaskans and visitors about these non-renewable resources.

Alaska Historical Collections
The Capital City Libraries' online library catalog, provides bibliographic access to many of the published materials and photograph and manuscript collections. Detailed inventories and finding aids for all the collections are located in the Historical Collections' reading room. Museums Alaska
The mission of Museums Alaska is to maintain an association of Alaska's museum professionals and volunteers in order to provide opportunities for improvement of museum and culture center services in Alaska and to enhance public understanding of the purposes and functions of Alaska's museums and culture centers.
